This song is a fine example of Walt Barr's 'outside'
musical taste. Later, Walt would record three 'jazz-rock fusion' albums ... which I was thrilled and challenged
to play on ... and the music was quite intense and cerebral (I'll post these soon!). This song, 'Stephen,'
is way out there! Check out Walt's wild guitar work!
It's time also for some kudos to Paul Schwartz for his fine drumming here on this song, and on all of the Serenade
and Sunrise recordings. Paul was clearly one of the best in Philadelphia when we all met in high school. He has
always had a deep connection to the musical styles of Michael Caruso, Rick Rydell, and myself.
I never really knew what this song was about ... but I suspect it's about Steve
Eisenberg, our bass player from Sunrise who ultimately joined the Krishnas while we were gigging in Toronto. It's
a long story ... but Steve eventually deprogrammed and did some motivational anti-cult speaking. He's now happily
married and operating a studio and a live sound mixing/recording company in the Philadelphia area.
