Michael has always had a strong afinity for the Eagles, Jackson
Brown, and other country-rock-ish artists. 'The Ballad Of Joey Small' was written from his cowboy boots on up.
I had a blast chunkin' along on piano ... I've always been a rhythmic keyboard player. For some reason, the
guitarsts I played with early on were not strong rhythm players, so I took the job. I always felt that I supported the
guitar solos nicely, yet when it was time for a keyboard solo ... where was the rhythm support? I digress :)
Another strong performance by all on this song ... punchy drums,
driving bass, chuggin' guitar and piano, great slide guitar solo, excellent outlaw vocals, one of Michael's classic
tambourine parts ... and a snake effect (courtesy of Michael too).
