I told a great story about 'Hollywood Freeway' on
the 'My Fault' page ... click here to check it out: My Fault
There are a few cool stories about 'Hollywood
Freeway' ...
You may have noticed that this is
the one time I listed myself before Michael on a co-write. Most of our songs were written either with Michael bringing
me a strong lyric concept, or with me on the piano and Michael coming up with the lyrics. I consider the lyrics to be
the nucleus of a song's concept (althought it isn't always the case), so I usually list the lyricist first.
In the case of '(I Fell In Love On The) Hollywood Freeway,' I wrote the lyrics first ... and gave them to Michael
to work on the music. Probably the only time that's happened. I felt that he would relate to the concept and
give it the 'oomph' it needed. And so he did!
This, too, was written during the Canoga Park Band House Staff Songwriter game. What a great time that was!
We should do it again.
Recently, some 30 years after
recording this album, I saw Kenny Kerner at the Taxi Road Rally. After not seeing him for all that time, he remembered
me instantly and said: 'I still sing that song, Hollywood Freeway.' I was impressed and flattered ... although
I wonder if it related to the story I told on the 'My Fault' page :)
