You are an angel, and I can't believe
That you came to me on this Christmas Eve.
There was no Present. None that I could see.
Not until you gave your gift to me.

And suddenly dark is light.
Suddenly black is white.
Nobody knows when to stop, where to start.
Everything wrong is right. I'm singing this song tonight
'Cause everything changed in the beat of a heart.

You are a vision, one most heavenly,
Dancing in the wind somewhere inside of me.
There is no reason, none that I can see,
That you should have come to change the world for me.

And suddenly gray is blue. Suddenly old is new.
Nobody knows where to stay, when to part.
Everything wrong is right. I'm singing this song tonight
'Cause everything changed in the beat of a heart.

I have been waiting for you for so long,
Thinking this day would never be.
I have been hoping that I could hold on,
Until you came to rescue me.
Rescue me!

You are the fire burning inside of me
Showing me the way Love's supposed to be.
There will be no one other than you and me.
Looking in your eyes I will always see

And everything dark is light. Everything black is white.
Nobody knows when to stop, where to start.
Everything wrong is right. I'm singing this song tonight.
'Cause everything changed in the beat of a heart.

ABOUT THE SONG
Another romantic love song ... She truly was my present that year. And it was remarkable how she and I both felt an instant change ... in the beat of a heart.

An interesting note regarding the recording:
Rob Trow, who has done so many wonderful vocals for me, was living and working in both Los Angeles and Chicago. I was in Chicago, visiting the inspiration for this song, when I thought: 'I wonder if Rob's in town?' He was. One day, while she was at work, Rob and I scooted into Streeterville Studios and recorded this song. Can you imagine her reaction?
One great present deserves another.

Oh ... by the way ...
This song is not finished. I tried a sax solo ... didn't knock me out.
I may try that again. Or a few other ideas. Meanwhile ... it was good enough to be another Honorable Mention in the Billboard Song Contest.
